Who Am I and why those cameras

I've been taking pictures for more than 20 years as a hobby, during vacations, etc. in 35mm SLR cameras, and with pocket ones before that (someone remembers the Kodak Instamatic???). I've used a Pentax Spotmatic SP (a 30 years old SLR camera) for years, and since 1999 I've using a Canon EOS 5, with a EF 28-135 IS USM as my all-purpose lens. Also I develop my own pictures. I've used to do this in the "old fashion" way (the darkroom/chemical way), but since 2001 I've switched to digital darkroom, with a Kodak RFS3600 filmscanner and a Sony DPP-SV55 photoprinter.

I've used a Sony Cybershot P1 as my pocket digicam until now (replaced by the S50) but it wasn't good enough to my "standard" photos, only for parties and other social events.

Now I switched to the S50 as my pocket camera and a DigitalRebel as my SLR one, replacing the EOS 5 and ending my "film" era. I've choosed the S50 and dRebel because I've accostumed to take pictures in the "canon way" with the EOS5, and it was very simple to switch from it to both cameras (same modes, even same sound at the AF lock). Also the image quality is very good, wondeful night shots and long exposure capabilities, and they have RAW file mode (a must-have for me). Also I wanted a CF memory pocket camera, as it's the same type of memory used by the DSLR.

I'm also a large networks administrator and designer, Unix administrator and mainframe system programmer, so I feel very at home with all things digital and all the technobabble present in the digital world.
